Living for what really matters

Living for what really matters

What a great year we’ve had!  If you’re reading this and you haven’t been to our Youth Ministry – we have an amazing group of young people, so passionate about living life God’s way.  It’s not about doing what parents expect – or anyone else – only God!  To have that perspective already when they are still so young is amazing.  Most don’t “get it” until they are old and decaying ;-)

This life is NOT forever!

Exams will not be forever.

Work will not be forever.

Family life will not be forever.

But heaven and hell will be!

Many people live for the approval of others – living to meet up to their societies or cultures expectations.  They grow to be very ‘respectable’ – but have lived in ‘fear’ of the wrong thing!  Jesus said we should “…not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).

Jesus also said this, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?  Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?”  (Matthew 16:26).  Others try to earn their way in life – they think that being good is enough.  But the answer to Jesus question ‘What can a man give in exchange for his soul?’ is ‘nothing!’  There is nothing we can do to SAVE our souls.  For the Bible says we are ALREADY LOST in our sin!

So this life is like a big test.

Only one thing matters

We need forgiveness

Only through finding this can we be restored to our origional purpose:

- - LIVING LIFE ON GOD’S PLANET AS GOD’S CHILD (What He intended) - -

SO, THE BAD NEWS

We are already in trouble

- - Our sins (wrongs) have TOTALLY separated us from God - -

THE GOOD NEWS

God lets this planet continue as He has a plan

He is restoring it (and doing so across thousands of years)

Jesus is the central figure

ILLUSTRATION

Like how without the right key you cannot unlocks a door

Jesus is the key to knowing God.

The Bible says Jesus is “…the way, the truth and the life….” And that ‘…no-one comes to the Father except through Him.’ (John 14:6)

He opens the way for us to be restored to God’s origional plan.

And is the ONLY way for that!

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath (anger) remains on him.”  John 3:36

Without Jesus, we’re stuck where we are - down the pooper!

So decide for yourself who you think is really wise.  The old person with wealth and respect in the eyes of this world, or the person with faith in the God they cannot even see, but who exists still.

To become a follower of Jesus is a big step – a life changing one – but soooo worth it. For, as we read above, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”   In Jesus you get forgiveness for your past, a hope for the future and a purpose for the present!

What will you do?

If you wanted to start to follow God’s way you could…

1. Pray to God, asking Him to forgive you sins (Jesus made this possible – He died for our sins), and committing yourself to start living His way.

2. You then need to start to CHANGE your life.  (If you don’t do this your prayer wasn’t sincere, huh!)

- Find a Bible – start learning about Jesus (eg try reading the book of Luke in the Bible)

- Find a Church – get to know other Christians who can help you grow in your Christian life
